Bad Girls Don't Die

Bad Girls Don't Die

my rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Alexis thought she led a typically dysfunctional high school existence. Dysfunctional like her parents' marriage; her doll-crazy twelve-year-old sister, Kasey; and even her own anti-social, anti-cheerleader attitude. When a family fight results in some tearful sisterly bonding, Alexis realizes that her life is creeping from dysfunction into danger. Kasey is acting stranger than ever: her blue eyes go green sometimes; she uses old-fashioned language; and she even loses track of chunks of time, claiming to know nothing about her strange behavior. Their old house is changing, too. Doors open and close by themselves; water boils on the unlit stove; and an unplugged air conditioner turns the house cold enough to see their breath in.

Alexis wants to think that it's all in her head, but soon, what she liked to think of as silly parlor tricks are becoming life-threatening--to her, her family, and to her budding relationship with the class president. Alexis knows she's the only person who can stop Kasey -- but what if that green-eyed girl isn't even Kasey anymore?

I read this book twice now and can confidently say that the Bad Girls Don't Die series is my favorite of Katie Alender's works so far. Even the covers are absolutely gorgeous!

The plot might not be the most original plot of all time but I enjoyed it. Alexis doesn't know what to do when her little sister Kasey begins acting even stranger than usual and when she learns that Kasey might be possessed she can't believe it at first. But she has to do something or lots of people could be in danger – including Kasey and herself.

First off, I thing Kasey is really creepy as it is and the possessed part just tops it all of. She doesn't have many friends, is a bit whiny and really needs Alexis, which on it's one would all be fine but she also collects dolls. DOLLS. One of the most supposedly non-creepy creepy items I can imagine. When she begins acting strange however, she just becomes terrifying.
Alexis and her family also live in an old, big, dark house which might be a bit cliché but also so much creepier. The whole atmosphere of the story was eerie and unsettling.

Alexis is a bit of a loner and doesn't have any real friends herself. Her family also isn't that close, her parents both living their own lives, not really talking, and then of course there's Kasey who like I already established isn't the perfect little sister either. One thing that annoyed me about her is how often she just tried to play of weird things to her imagination and try to pretend like nothing was wrong. I really like Alexis, she has an amazing sense of humor and doesn't get hysterical quickly which is great. She also loves photography and just reading about it made me look at photography differently. Overall she is a badass and I loved that.

Since Halloween is on it's way (maybe not in the next few weeks but I am so ready for fall) this would probably be a perfect book to read soon.

  1. Sounds like a good scary read. Books on people being possessed freak me out a bit so will keep this for a day time read. Thanks for the review.
