The Raven Boys

The Raven Boys

pages: 409
my rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

Every year, Blue Sargent stands next to her clairvoyant mother as the soon-to-be dead walk past. Blue never sees them--until this year, when a boy emerges from the dark and speaks to her.

His name is Gansey, a rich student at Aglionby, the local private school. Blue has a policy of staying away from Aglionby boys. Known as Raven Boys, they can only mean trouble.

But Blue is drawn to Gansey, in a way she can't entirely explain. He is on a quest that has encompassed three other Raven Boys: Adam, the scholarship student who resents the privilege around him; Ronan, the fierce soul whose emotions range from anger to despair; and Noah, the taciturn watcher who notices many things but says very little.

For as long as she can remember, Blue has been warned that she will cause her true love to die. She doesn't believe in true love, and never thought this would be a problem. But as her life becomes caught up in the strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys, she's not so sure anymore.

This book took me by surprise. I didn't really expect to like it that much and didn't really understand all the hype around it but now I get it completely.

To be honest I didn't know anything about it, I knew it was a fantasy book but I thought it would be in a whole different fantastic world. Instead, it takes place in our world with some fantastical elements added to the world.

I really liked the characters in this book. They all had their own unmistakable narration and every one of the main characters had her/his own backstory, problems, thoughts and character development. It was interesting to read about these total different characters and I found it fascinating to read about the wealth some of the characters had.

Blue is the main character and I really liked her. She was confident and just very likable but what I really loved about her was her family. She lives with her mom and lots of other female relatives/friends and their relationship was awesome and hilarious. The relationship she forms with the Raven Boys was really great as well.

The fantastical elements were fascinating to me. I hope the next books explain everything a bit more since sometimes it did seem a bit random and without limits but at the same time that was really intriguing.

This book has an addictive side to it that I didn't expect at all. I really liked the book but I still didn't expect to be so wrapped up in it even after I finished it. I constantly thought about how it would continue and wanted to read more about Blue and the Raven Boys. I can't wait to read the second book and see how everything continues.
